چکیده

Malathion technical fogging is considered as a potent tool for the control of vectors of various diseases. The purpose of fogging is to interrupt the further transmission by killing the vectors carrying pathogens. Fogging operation was launched in India in 1970 as an urgent remedial measure. Thermal fogging with malathion is very effective in malaria and dengue outbreaks, but it has a very little impact in Japanese encephalitis (JE) outbreak, because of its unpredictable and infrequent occurrence. Due to non-availability of any effective control tool for the control of JE vectors, malathion thermal fogging itself becomes an unavoidable part of vector control in JE outbreak. Malathion technical fogging is, therefore, recommended during JE outbreaks.

Evaluation of organophosphorus and synthetic pyrethroid insecticides against six vector mosquitoe species.

Three organophosphorus compounds- malathion, folithion and temephos- and two synthetic pyrethroids- alphamethrin and deltamethrin- were used for monitoring the susceptibility status of larvae and adults of six vector mosquito species: Culex quinquefasciatus (Filariasis) and Aedes albopictus (Dengue) (both laboratory and field strains); laboratory strains of Aedes aegypti (Dengue), Anopheles ste...

Insecticide susceptibility status of Culex tritaeniorhynchus giles, vector of Japanese encephalitis in Delhi.

Laboratory studies were carried out to ascertain the current susceptibility status of adult and larval stages of the Culex tritaeniorhynchus mosquito, vector of Japanese encephalitis, to various insecticides used under public health programs in India. The present study revealed that exposure of adult mosquitoes to diagnostic concentrations of DDT - 4.0%, malathion - 5.0%, fenitrothion - 1.0%, a...

Ecological Niche Modeling to Estimate the Distribution of Japanese Encephalitis Virus in Asia

BACKGROUND Culex tritaeniorhynchus is the primary vector of Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV), a leading cause of encephalitis in Asia. JEV is transmitted in an enzootic cycle involving large wading birds as the reservoirs and swine as amplifying hosts. The development of a JEV vaccine reduced the number of JE cases in regions with comprehensive childhood vaccination programs, such as in Japan ...

Confirmation of Culex (Culex) tritaeniorhynchus summorosus (Diptera: Culicidae) as a separate species.

BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVES Culex tritaeniorhynchus, a member of Cx. vishnui subgroup, is an important vector of Japanese encephalitis (JE) virus. Cx. tritaeniorhynchus summorosus considered as a variety or subspecies of Cx. tritaeniorhynchus, has been studied in detail to settle its taxonomic status. Surveys for the collection of Cx. tritaeniorhynchus from Chandigarh and adjoining areas have estab...
